An Australian seal swimming through blue water

Keeper Kids Waterways activities

Foster your child's love of wildlife through connection with the wonders of their natural world. Learn about animal families, through story telling, craft and play.

Hear about Bella the Seal, and why it is so important to keep plastic out of waterways to keep wildlife safe and healthy. You can do your part by picking up rubbish, making sure you don’t leave any rubbish in nature and choosing bubbles not balloons for your next party.

Did you know balloons are very dangerous if eaten by animals?

Instead of balloons at your next party, make bubbles instead! You could even create giant bubbles, perfect for playing outdoors!

How to make bubble wands:

You need 2 sticks and 2 cotton cord or rope. Tie the cotton cord or rope to each stick. If you want more bubbles, all you need to do is tie extra cord loops along the main cord!

How to make bubbles:

You need 1/2 cup dish detergent. Choose an eco/biodegradable brand. 5 cups of soft or distilled water, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable glycerin or corn syrup or honey.

Mix them together then leave for 4 hours or overnight.

When ready, dip the bubble wands into mixture, bring ends together then open wide and let bubbles fly.

After listening to our shadow puppet Storytime you can create your own shadow puppets using these templates or by drawing your own shadow puppets.
